The report also explains how this programme supports delivery of the Government’s priorities for improving financial management across the public sector and managing the public finances within the fiscal framework. The report summarises how the WGA programme builds on the developments in public sector accounting and outlines the benefits that are already being realised. It also outlines the Government’s strategy for publication of GAAP-based information in future years.

  • Long-term public finance report: an analysis of fiscal sustainability - The 2005 Long-term public finance report: an analysis of fiscal sustainability provides a comprehensive analysis of long-term socio-economic and demographic trends, and their potential impact on the public finances. Using a series of indicators, the report finds that, based on current policies, the UK fiscal position is sustainable in the long term and that the UK is in a strong position relative to many other developed countries to face the challenges of an ageing society.
